How do I merge two journals together?

How to move entries from one journal to another in Day One

Merging journals automatically in Day One is not supported, but entries can be moved in bulk from one journal to another.

iOS

  1. Swipe on an entry and tap Select. Or tap More (•••) at the top right, then Select Entries. This will invoke select mode, and a circle will appear beside each entry.
  2. Tap the circle by each entry you wish to move. Alternatively, you can tap Select All to include all entries.
  3. Tap Move/Copy
  4. Tap Move To…
  5. In the journal picker that appears, select the journal you wish to move your entries to.

Once you have moved your entries to the desired journal, delete the empty journals with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings (gear icon in the top-right corner of the screen).
  2. Tap Journals.
  3. Tap the journal you wish to delete.
  4. Tap Delete Journal, then tap the Delete Journal button that appears.
  5. Tap Delete Journal again. (Yes, we really want to make sure that you don’t accidentally delete a journal. 🙂 )

macOS

  1. Display the journal pane by clicking its icon.
  2. Select the entries you want to move to a journal.
  3. Drag and drop them on the desired journal in the journal pane. -OR- Right-click and select Move > Then select Journal.

Once you have moved your entries to the desired journal, delete the empty journals with these steps:

  1. Go to Day One > Settings.
  2. Click Journals.
  3. Select the journal you wish to delete.
  4. Click the minus button.
  5. Click Delete Journal.

Android

  1. Long press on an entry, then tap Select. This will invoke select mode, and a circle will appear beside each entry.
  2. Tap the circle by each entry you wish to move.
  3. Tap the folder icon with the arrow to choose a journal.
  4. In the journal picker that appears, select the journal you wish to move your entries to.

Once you have moved your entries to the desired journal, delete the empty journals with these steps: 

  1. Tap Settings (gear icon in the top-right corner of the screen).
  2. Tap Journals.
  3. Tap the journal you wish to delete.
  4. Tap Delete Journal, then tap the Delete Journal button that appears.
  5. Tap Delete Journal again. (Yes, we really want to make sure that you don’t accidentally delete a journal. 🙂 )
