Reminders

Instructions on how to use Reminders in Day One for iOS and macOS.

Learn how Day One’s Reminders can help you make a habit of journaling. Reminders do not currently sync between devices. Each device will need to set up reminders individually.

iOS

There are now two reminder types for Day One iOS.

  • Daily Reminder
  • Text Messaging (available in Premium subscription, USA only)

Daily Reminder

To create a new reminders, go to Day One > Settings > Reminders > Notifications > Daily Reminder.

Once Daily Reminder is turned on, specifics can be adjusted in the Details section.

In addition to the standard Daily Reminder, additional custom reminders can be set up by tapping New Reminder. You can have a custom message appear, choose the time, recurrence, to which journal the entry will post, tags, and even templates.

When the reminder appears in your notifications, tap on it to load the entry.

Templates are loaded into the entry when you tap the reminder as it appears or tap the reminder in the Notification Screen on iOS.

Text Messaging

Starting in version 6.0, Premium subscribers can set up Text Messaging reminders. This is currently available in USA and Canada. When the text is received, simply reply in Messages to create a new Day One entry. Additional details are found in our Text Messaging to Day One help guide.

macOS

Click Day One > Settings (in the file menu) > Reminders. Click to enable reminders and then click the + icon to create a new reminder. Settings can be adjusted for when the reminder is received, to which journal the entry will be added, and even templates.

Reminders will appear in the Menu Bar Entry option at the specified time. Please note the computer will need to be on at the time of the reminder.
