What is Daily Chat?
Daily Chat is a conversational way to journal in Day One. Talk through your day in a guided back-and-forth conversation, then turn that reflection into a journal entry that captures your words and mood.
Is Daily Chat powered by AI?
Yes. Daily Chat uses AI to guide your reflection through conversation and generate journal entries based on what you share. It only processes the messages you choose to send and is a fully optional feature of Day One.
Do I need Daily Chat to journal in Day One?
No. Daily Chat is completely optional. Day One supports freeform writing, photos, audio, video, prompts, and more. Daily Chat is simply another way to begin.
Is Daily Chat available on all platforms?
Daily Chat is currently available on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, and web. Daily Chat for Mac will be available soon.
Is Daily Chat a paid feature of Day One?
Yes, Daily Chat is exclusively available with Day One Gold, a new Day One paid tier designed for guided reflection and deeper memory preservation.
Can I edit the journal entry Daily Chat generates?
Yes. Every entry can be reviewed and edited before or after saving. The generated entry is a starting point — you remain the author.
Can I chat about past days?
Yes. You can navigate to previous dates and use Daily Chat to talk through what happened yesterday, last week, or even years ago.
Is Daily Chat secure?
Yes. Daily Chat is fully opt-in. Messages are securely transmitted, never stored after processing, and never used for AI training. If your journals use end-to-end encryption, that protection is maintained.
Is Daily Chat optional?
Yes. Daily Chat is fully opt-in and disabled by default. You must enable AI features in Settings > Labs to use it. You can turn them off at any time.
Does Daily Chat access my entire journal?
No. Daily Chat only processes the messages you choose to send within a conversation. It does not access your full journal unless you explicitly use it with specific content.
Is my content stored or used for AI training?
No. Messages sent to Daily Chat are securely transmitted using encrypted protocols (HTTPS), processed to generate a response, and then deleted. Your content is never stored or used to train AI models by Day One or our AI partners.
What happens if my journal uses end-to-end encryption?
If your journal is end-to-end encrypted, chats you submit to Daily Chat are temporarily decrypted on your device only while AI generates a response. Once processing is complete, the content is immediately re-encrypted.
Can I turn Daily Chat off?
Yes. AI features can be disabled at any time in Settings > Labs > AI features. If turned off, Daily Chat will no longer process any of your content.
Who provides the AI technology?
Daily Chat uses secure AI services hosted by Automattic or trusted third-party providers. In all cases, user content is never used for AI training.
