Today, we’re renaming Day One Premium to Day One Silver and introducing a new tier: Day One Gold.
If you’re a current Premium subscriber, here’s what you need to know:
- Your features and price aren’t changing. Silver is Premium, renamed. Your renewal price stays the same as long as your subscription continues.
- You’ll have free access for a limited time. We’re giving every current Premium subscriber a window to try Gold’s new features — including Daily Chat — at no extra cost. After the free period, you can choose to upgrade to Gold or continue with Silver.
- Writing always remains available at every level of Day One.
The Plans
Day One Basic is free — a simple place to start a journal.
Day One Silver is everything you need to journal consistently across your life. It includes everything that’s long been part of Premium: unlimited photos and video, audio recordings with transcription, journaling across all your devices, integrations with Strava, Zapier, and IFTTT, 25% off printed journals, and more. Nothing has been removed.
Day One Gold includes everything in Silver, plus tools designed to help you reflect more deeply on what you’ve written. That means Daily Chat, reflective summaries and prompts, Image generation, access to Day One Labs, and 35% off printed journals.
Introducing Day One Gold
Gold is built around the idea that a journal can do more than record — it can help you understand.
Daily Chat is a guided, conversational way to reflect on your day. Rather than staring at a blank page, you have a conversation that draws out what mattered, what you’re thinking about, and what you might want to remember. It meets you where you are.
Gold also includes reflective summaries and prompts that surface patterns and insights across your entries over time, and Day One Labs, where we ship early experiments and new ideas first. With many more features and enhancements coming soon.
Why a new tier?
These features — particularly the AI-powered ones — cost meaningful resources to build and run. Gold is how we fund continued development while keeping Silver complete and unchanged for the subscribers who’ve trusted us for years.
A note on AI and privacy
AI features in Gold are entirely optional. If you don’t enable AI features or engage them, they don’t touch your entries. When you do use them, your content is processed only in that moment and is never used to train AI models. The privacy principles Day One is known for haven’t changed.
Not everyone wants AI in their journal, and that’s fine. Silver remains a powerful, complete journaling experience without it.
