Create Entries with Email

How to send an email directly to specific Day One journals

You can create journal entries by sending an email to Day One. This feature is available on iOS, Android, and Web. When you enable it, each of your journals gets a unique email address — send an email to that address, and a Day One entry will be created. This feature is exclusive to our Silver or Gold plan. This feature is not yet available on our Mac app.

On iOS: Go to Settings > Email to Journal to find the unique email address for each journal.

On Android: Go to Settings > Email to Journal to find the unique email address for each journal.

On Web: Go to Settings > Account. Under the Integrations section, find Email to Journal to see the unique email address for each journal.

There is a link to save the email as a contact. When you save a journal email to your Contacts app, an image is automatically placed in the contact with the Day One logo and the color matching the specific journal color. Then email that address, and a Day One entry will be created.

Email entries will work with encrypted journals.

Emailing an entry does support the same Markdown options we currently support.

Enable Image Attachments

Image attachments are turned off by default. You can enable them on iOS, Android, or Web:

On iOS: Go to Settings > Email to Journal, select a journal, and turn on the Include Images toggle.

On Android: Go to Settings > Email to Journal, select a journal, and turn on the Attachments toggle.

On Web: Go to Settings > Account, scroll to Integrations > Email to Journal, select a journal, and turn on the Include Images toggle.

Currently, journals can receive and store image attachments sent via email in the following formats:

  • PNG
  • JPEG

Note: Non-image attachments will be ignored and not processed.

Turning Off Email to Journal (Disconnect Email)

You can disconnect the email address for any individual journal to stop new entries from being created via email.

On iOS: Go to Settings > Email to Journal, tap the arrow next to the journal you want to disconnect, tap the email address shown, then tap Disconnect Email (shown in red at the bottom of the menu).

On Android: Go to Settings > Email to Journal, select the journal, and tap the email address to find the disconnect option.

On Web: Go to Settings > Account > Integrations > Email to Journal, select the journal, and look for the disconnect option. If this option is not available, please contact our support team.
