Journal drawer in Day One
How to see the journal drawer on iOS and macOS.
The Journal Drawer provides access to multiple journals and access to Settings.
iOS
Switching between journals
To switch between journals in Day One for iOS (version 2025.6 or later), from the List view of a single journal, tap the back arrow (left-pointing chevron) at the top of the screen, above the journal title. This returns you to the Journals tab, where you can tap any other journal, or tap All Entries to see entries from every journal combined.
You can also tap the Journals tab at the bottom of the screen at any time to jump directly to the journal list.
Note: tapping the journal title itself at the top of the List view does not open the journal switcher. The tap target is the back arrow above the title.
Journal Drawer
Tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner, or swipe from left to right on the screen to open the Journal Drawer. Inside the drawer, you’ll see a list of all your journals:
- If you have multiple journals, “All Entries” will appear at the top.
- The “Trash” section will appear at the bottom if you have any deleted entries.
To change the order of your journals, tap the Edit button and use the drag handles (sliders) next to each journal name to rearrange them by dragging and dropping.
For additional options, tap the meatball menu (three dots) next to a journal name:
- Select Multiple Journals – View a combined timeline, export entries, or preview your journal book.
- Journal Settings – Edit your journal details. Learn more about how to edit your journal.
- Delete – Permanently delete the journal and all entries it contains.

macOS/Web/Windows
On Mac, Web App, and Windows app, the journal drawer can be shown or hidden by clicking the icon at the top left. If a Journal has an arrow in its colored icon, then that means its sort order has been modified to sort by edit date, instead of by entry date.
