Importing Data from JSON files

JSON file imports are supported on iOS, MacOS and Android apps. Here's how to use them.

JSON export is the manual/export option from Day One. JSON files can contain all entries, media, and metadata. On iOS and Android, the JSON file must be stored in local storage in order to import the file. For macOS, it is recommended the file be in the Downloads folder.

The JSON file importer in Day One is designed for importing JSON exports created from the Day One app. Troubleshooting or assisting with importing a JSON file created outside of the Day One app is outside the scope of our support.

If you would like to import a JSON file from another app into Day One, you will need to make sure it’s formatted in the same way to have success. For this reason, we have provided an example file you can use to do so:
