Day One widgets for macOS

Widgets for Day One on macOS are here with Big Sur!

Add Day One widgets to your Notification Center or Desktop on macOS.

Edit Widgets

Open the Notification Center on Mac. You can click the date at the top- right of the screen to open this. Scroll to the bottom of the widgets to find the option to Edit Widgets. (Alternatively right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Edit Widgets).

Click on Day One in the Widgets list on the left and select from the available Day One Widgets:

  1. On This Day – Revisit photos from past years with the On This Day preview.
  2. Daily Prompt – See the Daily Prompt throughout the day and answer when it’s convenient for you.
  3. Streaks – Keep track of your recent journaling streak and jump straight to the Calendar View (small widget) or to the Today View (medium widget).
  4. Today – Quickly see your most recent photos and location history to jump straight to the Today View to create a new entry.

Avoiding iPhone Widgets on Mac

Starting with macOS 15 (Sequoia), your Mac can display widgets from your iPhone. If you use an iPhone, when adding Day One widgets, you may see two “Day One” options in the widget picker. Be sure to select the Mac version:

  • Mac widget: The Day One icon has a subtle shadow under the bookmark
  • iPhone widget: No shadow under the bookmark icon

You’ll also see a ‘From iPhone’ label in the top right corner when the iPhone widgets are selected:

If you accidentally add the iPhone widget, clicking it will attempt to open iPhone Mirroring instead of the Day One app. Remove it and add the correct Mac widget instead.

Capture life’s moments, anytime, anywhere.
