Apple Health App Integration
Day One for iOS can integrate with Apple Health:
- Mindful Minutes — Day One records your journaling time as mindfulness activity.
Note: The step count metadata feature has been removed as of app version 2026.9. See the Step Count section below for details.
Mindful Minutes (Journaling Time → Apple Health)
This section applies only to Mindful Minutes data.
Day One can record your time spent journaling as Mindful Minutes in the Apple Health app.
How to enable
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Select Apps > Health > Data Access & Devices, and select Day One.
- Tap the Turn On All button to enable the Day One app’s access to the Mindfulness Minutes data in the Apple Health app.

Troubleshooting Mindful Minutes
If Day One doesn’t show as a Data Source, open your Day One App and go to Settings > Apple Health. This will request access to Apple Health and will show you the options to enable Mindful Minutes.
Note: Mindful Minutes is the only data type Day One can write to Health.
Step Count (removed as of version 2026.9)
The step count metadata feature has been removed from Day One for iOS as of app version 2026.9. If you previously used this feature, the option will no longer appear in your entry metadata. This is an intentional change, not a bug.
HealthKit integration is planned to return in an improved form through the Today tab in a future update.
Quick Reference
- Mindful Minutes: Journaling → Health app. Enable in Apps > Health > Data Access & Devices.
