AI Entry Summary

AI Entry Summary is a new experimental feature for Day One. This feature uses AI to generate a concise summary of your current journal entry directly in the entry editor.

This feature is exclusively available to users who have enabled or signed up through Day One Labs. Have questions? Check out the Day One AI FAQs.

How to Get Started

iOS

Ensure you’ve updated to Day One iOS version 2025.14 or higher.
Open Day One and navigate to Profile > Settings > Labs.
Turn on the toggles for AI Features and AI Entry Summary.
Start a new journal entry and start writing, or open an existing journal entry.
Tap the star icons in the bottom toolbar.

Tap Summarize Entry.

A summary will then be generated from your entry.

You can then copy the entry summary to add to your journal entry.

Android

Make sure you’ve enabled or signed up for Day One Labs using your active Day One user ID or account email address.
Ensure you’ve updated to Day One Android version 2025.12 or higher.
Once you’ve signed up for Labs, open Day One and navigate to Settings > Labs.
Turn on the toggles for AI Features and AI Entry Summary.
Start a new journal entry and start writing, or open an existing journal entry.
With the cursor on the text, see the virtual keyboard toolbar with the AI icon (see blue arrow below). Tap on it to open the Journaling Tools menu.
Tap Summarize Entry.
A summary will then be generated from your entry.
You can then copy the entry summary to add to your journal entry.
