Title Suggestions

Requires Day One Gold. Title Suggestions is available with a Day One Gold subscription.

Title Suggestions uses AI to generate meaningful title options for your journal entries based on what you’ve written. Instead of staring at a blank title field, you get a set of suggested titles to choose from — just tap or click the one that fits.

Key Features

• AI-generated titles – Day One reads your entry content and suggests several title options tailored to what you wrote.
• Multiple suggestions – You get a set of suggestions at once. If none feel right, refresh to generate a new batch — previous suggestions stay available so you can browse them all.
• One-tap insertion – Tap or click a suggestion to instantly add it as the title of your entry.

How to Get Started

iPhone & iPad

1. Open or create a journal entry and write some content.
2. Tap the Journaling Tools (sparkles) button in the editor toolbar.

3. Tap Title Suggestions in the Journaling Tools sheet.

4. Day One generates several title suggestions based on your entry content.
5. Tap any suggestion to insert it as the title of your entry.
6. To see more options, tap the refresh icon. New suggestions are added to the existing set so you can browse all of them.

Mac

Mac support is coming soon.

Android

1. Open or create a journal entry and write some content.
2. Tap the AI (sparkles) icon in the editor toolbar to open Journaling Tools.

3. Tap Title Suggestions in the Journaling Tools menu.

4. Day One generates title options for your entry.
5. Tap any suggestion to insert it at the top of your entry.
6. To generate more options, tap the refresh icon in the title bar.

Web

1. Open or create a journal entry at dayoneapp.com and write some content.
2. Click the Journaling Tools (sparkles) button in the editor toolbar.
3. Click Title Suggestions in the dropdown menu.

4. A modal opens with suggested titles for your entry.
5. Click any suggestion to insert it as your entry title.
6. To generate a fresh set, click the refresh icon. New suggestions replace the previous ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Privacy & Security

When you generate title suggestions, the text content of your entry is sent to Day One’s AI service to produce the result. Your data is not used to train AI models. For full details, see AI Features.

What happens if my entry already has a title?

Selecting a suggestion replaces any existing H1-formatted title at the top of your entry. If there’s no title yet, the suggestion is inserted at the very top as a new heading.

Can I get more suggestions if I don’t like the first set?

Yes. Tap or click the refresh icon to request a new batch. Each refresh adds new suggestions to the list, so you can keep browsing until you find the right one.

Does this work on entries with very little text?

Title Suggestions works best when your entry has meaningful content. Very short or empty entries may produce generic results, or a message that no suggestions are available.

Is this feature available on Mac?

Not yet. Title Suggestions is currently available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the Day One web app.
