Go Deeper

Requires Day One Gold. Go Deeper is available with a Day One Gold subscription.

Go Deeper uses AI to generate personalized writing prompts right inside the entry editor, based on what you’ve already written. If your entry already has content, the prompts are tailored to your specific thoughts — helping you dig further, uncover new insights, and keep the words flowing. If you’re starting fresh, Go Deeper suggests a set of starter prompts to spark your first idea.

Key Features

  • Personalized prompts – Each set of prompts is generated based on the content of your current entry, so no two sessions feel the same.
  • Starter prompts – If your entry is empty, Go Deeper offers general reflection questions to help you get started.
  • Refresh for more – Tap or click the refresh button to generate a new set of prompts at any time.
  • One-tap insertion – Tap any prompt to instantly add it to your entry as a follow-up question, ready for you to answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my prompts not personalized to my entry?

Go Deeper generates prompts based on the text in your entry. If your entry is empty or very short, Day One offers general starter prompts instead. Try writing at least a few sentences for the most tailored results.

What happens when I tap a prompt?

The prompt is inserted at the end of your entry. Tap below it and start writing your response.

Can I get more prompts if I don’t like the ones shown?

Yes. Tap the refresh icon (circular arrow) to generate a new set. Each refresh adds a new page so you can still browse previously generated prompts too.

Can I disable Go Deeper after enabling it?

Yes. Go to Settings › AI Features to opt out of AI features any time.

Is Go Deeper available on Mac?

Not yet. Go Deeper is available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. Mac support is planned for a future update.

Does Go Deeper require an internet connection?

The standard cloud version requires an internet connection. On supported iPhone and iPad models with Apple Intelligence enabled, Go Deeper can run on-device without an internet connection.

Is my journal content kept private when I use Go Deeper?

Yes. Your entry content is temporarily decrypted to generate prompts and is never stored or used to train AI models. When using on-device mode with Apple Intelligence, your content never leaves your device. See the Day One Privacy Policy for full details.

How is Go Deeper different from Prompt Packs?

Prompt Packs are curated collections organized by theme — they’re not based on what you’ve written. Go Deeper generates prompts dynamically from your current entry, giving you questions uniquely relevant to what you’re reflecting on right now.
