Automatically add your location to new entries
In order to add your location to your entries, you first need to enable Location Services on your device if you haven’t already.
Once you have enabled Location Services you can optionally enable your location (including a map) to be added to your new entries automatically.
iOS
Go to Settings > Journals > [tap a journal] > Advanced > Auto Add Location.
macOS
Go to Day One > Settings > General and make sure the option to Auto Add Location is enabled. (Note: on macOS this is a global setting and can’t be enabled/disabled per journal)
Android
Go to Settings > Journals > [tap a journal] > Advanced > Auto Add Location.
Web
To enable or disable Auto Add Location on the Day One web app:
- Click the gear icon at the top left of the sidebar to open Settings
- Click Journals
- Select a journal
- Go to Advanced
- Toggle Auto Add Location on or off
Note: This is a per-journal setting on the web (same as iOS and Android — unlike macOS, which is a global setting). Weather is automatically added when location is enabled, so turning off location will also stop weather from being recorded.
For browser permission settings and more detail, see Automatically Add Location and Weather to Entries (Web).
Turning off Auto add location
If you no longer want the location and map to be added to your new entries, turn the Auto add location setting off, as described above, and then disable location services in your device settings.
To remove an existing location from an entry, refer to Editing an Entry’s Location.
