How I Journal: Ambre Green

For over five years now, Ambre Green, a program manager hailing from the East Coast, has integrated journaling into her daily life.

Whether it’s the spontaneous notes of reflection or the structured collection of memorable moments, Ambre’s approach to journaling illuminates the infinite possibilities that lie between pen and paper, or, in this modern age, between fingers and screen.

Finding Reflection and Perspective Through Journaling

Ambre articulates the significance journaling holds for her, noting, “Journaling is important to me because it helps me to reflect and bring life into perspective.”

By dabbling in journaling at different stages in her life, Ambre has fostered a deeper connection with herself, a journey that’s spanned over half a decade of consistent journaling.

The Daily Glimpses of Life

Ambre enthusiastically shares the myriad of topics her journals encompass, stating, “I have 9 journals on the Day One app but the one I use most frequently consists of my daily life experiences and how it develops my relationship with God. Other journals include ideas that I get about my blog/website, and my diet and exercise to name a few.”

Carving Out Time for Self-reflection

In a world that’s continually chasing the clock, Ambre doesn’t bind her journaling habit to a rigid schedule. “I don’t have a set time. I journal multiple times throughout the day. As thoughts, ideas, and reflections come to me, I journal them,” she explains, demonstrating a spontaneous approach that feels both refreshing and encouraging for aspiring journal keepers.

Tailoring Journaling to Suit Your Needs

For those looking to cultivate a journaling habit, Ambre advises a personalized approach, asserting, “My advice is to journal in the way that is most meaningful, productive, and positive for your life’s journey.” This notion emphasizes the freedom and flexibility journaling offers, accommodating a spectrum of styles and preferences.

Leveraging the Day One App for a Richer Journaling Experience

Ambre heaps praise on the Day One app, highlighting several features she finds indispensable.

“There are quite a few features that I use and find helpful. I like features such as “tags” and the search option. They help me to find entries from the past. The “text to journal” helps me send a quick note to the app so that I can come back and journal in more detail about it later. The “share” options are beneficial for saving photos, links, and other information/data from another platform directly to the app.

“The “On This Day” feature is great because it takes you back to today’s specific day in previous years where you have a journal entry. Then there is the ability to record voice journal entries where I can record audio only or also transcribe what I’ve spoken. By speaking out my thoughts it helps to release stress. It’s sort of like a little self “talk-therapy”.

“I’ve also recently created a journal template for a journal that I keep about my children. I appreciate being able to share with them how they have grown at different points in their lives. It helps to build their confidence and influence their own positive introspection.”

Capturing Small Details, Small Progress

“Life is busy and with the loads we may carry, we can often take for granted or forget the smallest things. Keeping a journal has reminded me that progress isn’t perfect. Small progress is still progress and consistency begets results.”

Ambre encapsulated the essence of journaling with a poignant note: “Journaling is the reflective and introspective proverbial journey of life.”

Through the words she writes across her journal pages, Ambre Green navigates the complex maze of life, finding reflection, understanding, and a deeper connection with the self.
