What’s in Labs

iPhone & iPad

• Text Colors – Apply custom text and highlight colors to a selected range of text in your entries. Pick from a curated palette of text colors and highlights, or use your journal’s theme color. You can combine a text color with a highlight on the same range.
• AI Format Transcription – Uses AI to clean up and format the raw transcription Apple generates when you record audio in an entry. Still experimental, so results may vary.

Mac

How to Enable Labs

iPhone & iPad

1. Tap your profile photo to open Settings.
2. Tap Labs.
3. Toggle on Enable Labs and confirm.

Mac

1. Click Day One > Settings from the menu bar, or Settings from the sidebar.
2. Click the Labs tab.
3. Toggle on Enable Labs.

Android

1. Tap on your user icon on the top right corner of the screen to access Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap Labs.
3. Toggle on Enable Labs.

Web & Windows

1. Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top-left corner.
2. Click Labs (below Advanced).
3. Toggle on Enable Labs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Day One Labs?

Labs is an early-access program for Day One Gold subscribers. It lets you try experimental features before they’re finished and share feedback directly with the team. Features in Labs may change or be removed at any time.

I previously had Labs on a Premium plan. What happened?

Labs is now exclusive to Day One Gold (formerly Premium now called Silver). To restore access, upgrade from within the app.

Can I turn off a Labs feature without disabling all of Labs?

Yes. Each Labs feature has its own toggle. Turn off any feature individually from Settings > Labs without affecting the others.

How do I share feedback about a Labs feature?

Go to Settings > Labs and tap Share Feedback, or reach us at support@dayoneapp.com.

How is my privacy protected when using Labs AI features?

AI features send only the content you choose to interact with to our AI provider — temporarily and only for generating a response. Your data is never stored externally or used for model training. You can disable AI features at any time.
