Subscribing to Day One Silver or Gold
How to subscribe to Day One Premium in iOS, macOS, and Android.
Day One offers two paid subscription tiers — Silver and Gold — available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and Web. Both include a free one-month trial so you can explore everything before you’re charged. This guide walks you through subscribing, upgrading to Gold, and managing your subscription on every platform.
Note: Day One Premium has been renamed to Silver. If you were a Premium subscriber, nothing has changed — your subscription, price, and features are exactly the same.
What’s Included
Note: If your device shows Account Status: Plus, you’re on the legacy Plus tier, not Silver. Plus has its own, smaller feature set (up to 10 photos per entry, no video or audio support, no PDF or drawing attachments). See the Day One Pricing & Features Guide for the full Plus feature list.

- Unlimited photos, videos, audio recordings, drawings, and PDF attachments per entry
- Multiple journals and journal collections
- Custom app icons
- Journal entry via email and SMS
- Strava and Zapier integrations
- IFTTT integration
- Scan to PDF
- Moon phase data
- Custom entry colors
- Priority email support
- Book printing discount
Day One Gold ($74.99/year) includes everything in Silver, plus:
- AI features
- Daily Chat
- Entry Highlights
- Go Deeper
- Title Suggestions
- AI Image Generation
- Multi-Entry Summary
- Day One Labs access

- Open Day One and tap the Settings icon (profile icon).
- Tap the Upgrade to Day One Gold banner near the top of Settings.

Mac
The Mac app is not part of this update. It continues to use Day One Premium as before. To subscribe or manage your subscription on Mac, go to Day One › Settings › Sync and click Subscribe to Premium.
Android
Subscriptions on Android are handled through Google Play. A free one-month trial is available for eligible accounts.
- Open Day One and tap the Settings icon (gear icon).
- Tap the Upgrade to Day One Gold banner near the top of Settings.
- On the paywall screen, select Silver or Gold. At this stage, if you’re already Silver, you’ll only be shown the Gold option.
- Tap Continue / Subscribe, then complete the purchase in Google Play.
- Your subscription is active as soon as Google Play confirms the purchase.

Web
On the Day One web app at dayone.me, subscriptions are processed through Stripe.
- Sign in to Day One at dayone.me.
- Click the Settings icon (gear icon in the sidebar).
- Under Account, click Go Premium.
- Select the Silver or Gold plan.
- Enter your payment details and click Subscribe.
- After payment is confirmed, your subscription is active immediately across all your devices.
Note: Web subscriptions can be managed (including cancellation) directly from the Day One web app. See Managing Your Subscription below.
Upgrading to Gold
Gold is a step up from Silver — it includes everything in Silver plus all of Day One’s AI features. If you’re already on Silver and want to add AI capabilities, you can upgrade to Gold at any time. The process depends on where your subscription was originally purchased.
Users who were already Silver subscribers when Gold launched have been given a limited-time free preview of Gold features, including Daily Chat. This preview is not available for new subscribers.
Tip: The easiest way to upgrade is by tapping the Upgrade to Day One Gold banner that appears in Settings inside the app.
App Store (iPhone and iPad)
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your account icon and go to Subscriptions.
- Find your Day One subscription and tap See All Plans (or the equivalent option on your device).
- Select Gold and confirm.
When you upgrade mid-cycle, Apple charges the full Gold price and then refunds the unused portion of your Silver subscription separately. You won’t end up paying for both, but the initial charge will show the full Gold amount before the refund is applied. If you ever want to downgrade back to Silver, follow the same steps and select Silver instead.
Google Play (Android)
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Tap your profile icon and go to Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions.
- Find your Day One subscription and tap Change plan.
- Select Gold and confirm.
Note: Android does not support downgrading directly from Gold to Silver. To switch from Gold to Silver, cancel your Gold subscription in your Google Play subscription settings, wait for the current billing period to end, then subscribe to Silver.
Web (Stripe)
- Sign in to Day One at dayone.me.
- Go to Settings › Account and click Manage Subscription.
- In the Stripe customer portal, select the Gold plan and confirm the change. (To downgrade back to Silver, follow the same steps and select Silver.)

FAQ
I was a Premium subscriber. What happened to my account?
Premium has been renamed to Silver. Your account was automatically migrated — your subscription, price, and renewal date have not changed. You now have a Day One Silver subscription.
Can I use my subscription on multiple platforms?
Yes. Your Silver and Gold subscriptions work on iPhone, iPad, Android, and Web as long as you’re signed in to the same Day One account. On Mac, Day One continues to use Premium, which is unchanged by this launch.
Can I subscribe on one platform and use it on another?
Yes. Subscribing on any platform — App Store, Google Play, or the Day One website — activates your subscription across all platforms.
Does Family Sharing work with Day One subscriptions?
Day One subscriptions are tied to individual Day One accounts and are not shareable through Apple Family Sharing or Google Family Library. Each person who wants Silver or Gold needs their own subscription.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your journal entries are always yours. If you cancel, your account reverts to the free tier at the end of your billing period. You’ll keep all your entries, but features exclusive to Silver or Gold (such as sync to additional devices and AI features) will no longer be available.
I subscribed through the App Store on iPhone but want to manage my subscription on my Mac. Where do I go?
App Store subscriptions are managed through Apple, regardless of which Apple device you use. Open the App Store on any Apple device, go to your account, then tap or click Subscriptions.
Is there a monthly subscription option?
There is no monthly subscription option. Day One Silver and Gold are only available as annual subscriptions. Visit dayoneapp.com/pricing for current pricing.
I don’t see the Gold tier in the app. What should I do?
Gold is available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and Web. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version. If Gold still doesn’t appear, try signing out and back in to your Day One account. You can also visit dayoneapp.com/gold to subscribe from the website. Note: Gold is not available on Mac — the Mac app is not part of this launch and continues to use Day One Premium.
