Tagging Guide
How to use tags in Day One entries on iOS, macOS, and Android.
Tags are a great way to organize your journals. Later you can filter by these tags to view entries or even print entries with specific tags. This guide will show how to add and use tags for iOS, Mac, and Android.
Deleting tags, renaming tags, and filters are addressed in more detail in other guides.
iOS
While creating an entry, tap More above the keyboard and tap “Tag”. Type a new tag or choose from existing tags in All Journals or the Current Journal. Tap any highlighted tag to remove it from the entry.

Tags can also be entered by using hashtags (#). Type any tag with a hashtag in the body of your entry and it will be converted to a tag. This setting can be enabled or disabled in Day One > Settings > Advanced > Create Tags from Hashtags.
Tags can also be added on the main List view to a single entry or in bulk. Swipe on an entry to view more options. Tap “Tag” to add a tag to a single entry. Tap “Select” to select multiple entries in bulk using multi-select. Tap “Tag” at the bottom left to apply a tag all entries selected.

Here’s a quick video tutorial to see how easy it is to add tags to your entries and then search for them in the List view.
macOS
Click the Tag icon at the bottom of the entry (or click the paper clip icon and choose Tags).

Android
While in Edit mode, tap the Paperclip icon above the keyboard. Tap “Tag” to open the list of available tags. Tap any existing tag to add or remove it from the entry. To add a new tag, enter the tag name in the search bar, then tap “Add”.

Web app and Windows app
While creating or editing an entry, click the tag icon in the tool bar to open Manage tags. Click to select a tag to add to the entry from All Journals or the Current Journal. To create a new tag, enter the tag name in the search bar, then tap “Create tag”. Click X to close Manage Tags.
Click the three-dot menu at the bottom to open Entry Info and view the Tags applied to the entry. Click Edit to open Manage tags.

Accessing your Tags
To see tags you have added and access entries with specific tags, you can use the search/filter function.
Note: When adding a tag, you can also specify which pool of tags to choose from. On the iOS, Web, and Windows apps, you will see the option to filter the tag list to show tags from All Journals or just the Current Journal.
