How to Enable Labs

Day One Labs features can be accessed through the Settings menu on your device. If you don’t see the Labs option in your settings, it’s possible that:

• Your app might need to be updated to the latest version
• Labs features might be gradually rolling out to users
• The specific Labs features you’re looking for might not be available on a specific platform yet

iOS

To check if Labs features are available:

1. Update to Day One iOS version 2025.14 or higher
2. Go to Profile > Settings > Labs
3. Toggle on Enable Labs
4. Turn on the features you’d like to try

Android

To check if Labs features are available:

1. Open the Day One app
2. Tap on the rounded profile icon on the top-right of the screen
3. Scroll down – you should see a Labs option above About
4. Tap Labs, then toggle on Labs Enabled
5. Turn on the features you’d like to try

Web/Windows

To check if Labs features are available:

1. Open Day One
2. Click Settings (gear icon on the top left)
3. Click Labs, below Advanced
4. Toggle on Enable Labs
5. Turn on the features you’d like to try

Mac

To check if Labs features are available:

1. Open the Day One app
2. Click Settings from the sidebar or from the menubar: Day One > Settings
3. Click Labs, next to Templates
4. Toggle on Enable Labs
5. Turn on the features you’d like to try

What is Day One Labs?

Day One Labs is our early-access program for Day One Premium users where you can test experimental journaling features before they’re released broadly. By joining Day One Labs, you get exclusive access to new tools, tutorials, and direct feedback channels so you can help shape the future of Day One.

What information do you collect?

We ask only for your Day One account email, user ID, and preferred device. No additional personal data is collected.

What Day One Labs features are available?

Current Day One Labs features include Go Deeper, AI Image Generation, AI Entry Title Suggestions, AI Entry Summary, AI Multi-entry Summary, and Daily Chat.

• Go Deeper – Generate personalized and dynamic prompts in the editor based on what you’ve written, helping you reflect further and uncover new insights.
• AI Image Generation – Generate custom images in the editor based on a journal entry’s content.
• AI Entry Title Suggestions – Generate entry title suggestions based on the content of your entry.
• AI Entry Summary – Generate a concise summary of your current journal entry directly in the entry editor. Read the tutorial.
• AI Multi Entry Summary – Open any date’s entries from different years and generate a single, cohesive summary of your journal entries for that date across all years.
• Daily Chat –

Do I have to use these features?

Nope. All Labs features are 100% optional—you can enable or disable any of them at any time under Settings > Labs.

How is my privacy protected?

Each Day One Labs AI feature processes only the specific entry (or entries) you choose. Your text is encrypted in transit and never stored on our servers or used for model training. For full details, see our AI Features FAQ.

How can I share feedback or report bugs?

We’d love to hear from you! Tap the “Send Feedback” link in Settings > Labs, or share your feedback here. Every comment helps us improve.

What happens if I run into performance issues?

If you notice slowness or glitches, let us know via the feedback link. We’ve optimized Labs features, but your real-world usage helps us fine-tune performance.

What if I decide to opt out of Labs after signing up?

At any point, you can toggle off all Labs features in Settings > Labs. If you’d like to end your participation in Day One Labs, please email us at support@dayoneapp.com.
