Account Management

Day One accounts are used for syncing data to Day One Sync* and for other features like Book Printing, etc.

Account details can be managed on the web app at https://dayone.me/settings. Sign in with the desired option (Day One account, Sign In with Apple, Sign in with Google).

Once signed in, Click Settings under the list of journals on the left side. There are options to edit the email address, change the password, and manage linked accounts for Apple and Google. If a subscription to Premium was purchased via dayone.me, it will be managed here as well.

An option to delete the account is available here. This is a permanent action.

Changing Email Address

Important: Identify Your Sign-in Method First

If you created your account using Sign in with Apple, your primary email address is managed directly by Apple. You will not receive a “Confirm Day One Email Change” email because the email address itself cannot be changed from within Day One’s settings.

If you used “Hide My Email,” your account is linked to a private relay address from Apple. You can add an Email/Password sign-in method to your account. Please refer to this article for detailed steps.

Adding or changing your Day One account email address can only be done at either the web app (https://dayone.me/settings) or iOS apps. It is not possible to change your email address on our Android, macOS, or Window apps.

Please note that you cannot change your email address without logging in to the app. If you’ve forgotten your password and aren’t able to access your email account, please contact support.

Changing Email Address on the Web App

To change the email address associated with your Day One account, please follow these steps:

Visit https://dayone.me/settings on a browser.
Click the “Edit” button on the Email section.
Enter your new email address (Note: you can’t use an email address that’s already associated with another Day One account).
Click “Done.”
The following emails will be sent from support@dayoneapp.com:
- “Notice of Day One email change request” to your old email address
- “Confirm Day One Email Change” to your new email address
Please check your new email address’s inbox for an email with the subject “Confirm Day One Email Change.” If you do not see the email in the inbox, please try searching for it in spam/junk folders.
Open the “Confirm Day One Email Change” email, and click the “Confirm change” button to confirm that you wish to change your account email address.

Changing Email Address on the iOS app

Sign into the Day One iOS app.
On the top right corner, tap on the profile icon to open the Settings screen.
Tap on your name to open the “Edit Account” screen.
Under the “DAY ONE ACCOUNT INFORMATION” section, tap on the Email address. A new window will pop up where you can enter a new Email address.
You will receive an email to confirm this. Click the link to confirm.

Linking or Unlinking your Apple ID

To link or unlink the Apple ID from your Day One account, please follow these steps. Currently, adding Apple ID as login credentials is only supported on Apple devices: iOS and macOS.

Linking an Apple ID

To add your Apple ID as login credentials to your Day account, please follow these steps.

iOS:

Go to Day One > Settings > Account > Account Details.
Tap Link Apple ID and follow any additional on-screen instructions.

Mac:

Go to Day One > Settings > Sync and click the Account Details button.
Click Account, then click Link Apple ID.

Unlinking an Apple ID

Please note: to remove your Apple ID as login credentials from your Day One account, you must have an alternate login method added to your account, such as an email address and password.
To add an email address and password, you can go to https://dayone.me/, click on Settings, and then under the Account tab, add an Email Address. The detailed steps can be found here: https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-sync/add-an-email-password-to-your-day-one-sync-account-with-apple-id/
